One of the most common questions that we get from families hoping to adopt <\/a>is, \u201cHow long will this adoption take?\u201d It\u2019s an understandable question. Most hopeful adoptive parents have spent years trying to start their family. All they want is to finally hold this baby in their arms and to begin their next chapter in life.<\/p>\n

But how long does an adoption truly take? Well, that\u2019s a tough question to answer because every single situation is different. However, we tell our hopeful adoptive families<\/a>that they can expect to have their adoption complete within one year.<\/p>\n

The reason we say a year is because hopeful adoptive families have a lot of work to do from the time they begin the initial paperwork to the time they bring a baby home. They need to complete a home study<\/a>and then complete an adoption profile, which both can take as little as several weeks or as long as several months. Once they are home study approved and their adoption profile is \u201clive,\u201d then families can begin to be shown to expectant parents. This is when the \u201cwaiting period,\u201d starts and there is no telling how long it will take to be selected by an expectant parent.<\/p>\n
